FAQ: What should I do if my Dexcom sensor comes off?

FAQ:

What should I do if my Dexcom sensor comes off?

Answer:

If your sensor becomes partially or fully dislodged from its original place, don't try to push it back in. Remove your sensor, apply the second or third one, if you have it, and get in touch so we can ship you a replacement.

How to remove your CGM:

  1.  Remove the Performance Cover (if one is applied).
  2. To remove the CGM, gently peel edges away from the skin as you would a band-aid. You can loosen a strongly adhering sensor by applying baby oil or vegetable oil for 5-10 minutes before removing it.
  3. Don’t throw away your transmitter when ending a sensor. The transmitter is reusable until the G6 notifies you that the transmitter battery is about to expire- typically ~90days.
  4. Do throw away the used sensor. CGMs cannot be recycled, so throwing it in a normal trash is the best option.
  5. When you're ready (no rush!), you can go ahead and apply your next sensor following the instructions here. It's ok to take a break between sensors, and the Levels app will be waiting for you when you're ready to get started again. The only thing to note is that the CGMs have an expiration date, so as long as you wear your CGM before it expires, then you'll be all set.
