How to Remove Your Stelo Biosensor
When your Stelo biosensor reaches the end of its 15-day lifespan, you'll need to remove it safely and dispose of it properly. Here's how:
When to remove your biosensor
Remove your Stelo biosensor when:
- It has reached the end of its 15-day lifespan
- You receive a notification that the sensor has expired
- The biosensor is damaged or not working properly
- You experience skin irritation or discomfort
How to remove your biosensor
- Prepare for removal
- Wash your hands thoroughly
- Find a clean, comfortable place
- Peel gently
- Grasp the edge of the biosensor adhesive and slowly peel it away from your skin. Pull parallel to your skin rather than pulling upward.
- Take your time
- Remove the biosensor slowly and gently to minimize discomfort and avoid irritating your skin.
- For stubborn adhesive
- If the biosensor doesn't come off easily:
- Apply warm water to help loosen the adhesive
- You can also use baby oil or adhesive remover wipes
- Never force or tear the biosensor off
- If the biosensor doesn't come off easily:
After removal
- Clean the area
- Gently wash the application site with mild soap and water, then pat dry.
- Check your skin
- Look for any redness or irritation. Mild redness is normal and should fade within a few hours.
- Give your skin a break (optional)
- While you can apply a new biosensor immediately, some people prefer to let their skin rest for a few hours between biosensors, especially if there's any redness.
- Rotate application sites
- Alternate between arms or use different spots on the same arm to give each area time to recover.
Disposing of your biosensor
- Place the used biosensor in your regular household trash. The biosensor does not contain hazardous materials that require special disposal.
- Stelo biosensors are single-use devices. Never attempt to reapply or reuse a biosensor.
Removing adhesive residue
If adhesive remains on your skin after biosensor removal:
- Use baby oil, coconut oil, or adhesive remover wipes
- Gently rub in circular motions
- Wash with soap and water
- Avoid scrubbing aggressively
If you experience skin irritation
Mild redness that fades within a few hours is normal. However, contact support if you experience:
- Persistent redness lasting more than 24 hours
- Blistering or severe irritation
- Signs of infection (warmth, swelling, pus)
- Allergic reaction symptoms
