What can cause a glucose spike
Glucose spikes occur for a few main reasons:
- Food consumption
Our bodies respond to the food we eat by turning it into glucose and other energy molecules.
- Intense exercise
During intense exercise, the body releases a flood of glucose in response to the stress you're putting your body through. This response is physiologically different from the food response and is associated with improved health. Read more about exercise spike here.
- Stress
Stress can cause an increase in cortisol, which can cause the body to release extra stored glucose.
There are other causes for glucose rises, but these are a few of the most common.
