How to Connect Your AI Assistant to Levels (Claude, ChatGPT, Grok)

Connect your Levels account to an AI assistant like Claude, ChatGPT, or Grok, and you can chat about your own data in plain language. Ask how your week went, which meals spiked you, or how your weight has trended. You can also log meals, workouts, and check-ins just by describing them.

You only need to set this up once: add Levels to your AI app, approve the connection, and start chatting.

Levels data is wellness information, not a diagnosis or medical advice.

How the Levels MCP works

This isn't a new feature inside the Levels app. It's a way to plug Levels into an AI app you already use, so that AI app can read and log your Levels data.

  • You chat in your AI app, not in Levels. After you connect, open Claude, ChatGPT, or Grok and ask your questions there. Nothing new will appear in the Levels app outside of your listed integrations (what AI apps have access to your Levels data).
  • Your AI app does the setup, not Levels. You'll add Levels inside your AI app's settings using the steps below. Levels can't connect it for you from our side.
  • Your AI app is a separate product. Its menus, plans, and features are controlled by that company. If something in the AI app itself isn't working, their help center is the best place to look.
  • Best for people who already use an AI assistant. If you're new to AI apps, that's okay! Just expect a bit of a learning curve, and follow the steps for your app one at a time.

Before you start

You'll need:

  • An active Levels membership (or a Levels Coach account). Free accounts can't connect.
  • An AI app that supports custom connectors, such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Grok.
  • The Levels connection URL: https://app.levels.com/mcp

Important: This URL isn't a webpage. If you open it in a browser, you'll see an error like "HTTP ERROR 405." That's normal! Paste it into your AI app's connector settings instead.

Connect your AI app

Every app follows the same three steps: add Levels as a custom connector, sign in to Levels, then approve the connection.

Claude (claude.ai and the Claude desktop app)

  1. Open Settings → Connectors.
  2. Choose Add custom connector.
  3. Name it Levels and paste https://app.levels.com/mcp as the URL. Leave any OAuth fields empty.
  4. Click Connect. A Levels page opens in your browser.
  5. Sign in to Levels if asked, review what the app will be able to do, and click Allow.

Back in Claude, turn on the Levels connector from the tools menu in the message box and start asking.

ChatGPT

Custom connectors in ChatGPT require developer mode, which is available on some ChatGPT plans.

  1. Open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Back in Apps & Connectors, choose Create.
  3. Name it Levels, paste https://app.levels.com/mcp as the URL, and choose OAuth for authentication.
  4. Sign in to Levels and click Allow.

Grok on the web (grok.com)

  1. Go to grok.com/connectors.
  2. Click New Connector, then pick Custom.
  3. Paste https://app.levels.com/mcp, name it Levels, and save.
  4. A Levels sign-in page opens. Log in and approve the connection.

Note: If you ask Grok itself whether it can connect to Levels, it may say custom connectors aren't supported. They are! Just follow the steps above.

Grok app (iPhone or Android)

  1. Open Settings, then Connectors.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Custom.
  3. Paste https://app.levels.com/mcp and save.
  4. A Levels sign-in page opens. Log in and approve the connection.

Grok Bot

  1. In a chat, send: Add a custom MCP server called Levels at https://app.levels.com/mcp
Keep the words "custom MCP server" in your message. Without them, the bot may try to install something from its catalog instead.
  2. The bot shows the name and URL. Check them, then click Add it.
  3. The bot posts a connect card. Click Authorize, log in to Levels in your browser, and approve the connection.
  4. In the chat, type @, choose Levels, and start asking.

Developer tools (Claude Code and Grok Build)

Claude Code: Run claude mcp add --transport http levels https://app.levels.com/mcp, then start Claude Code, type /mcp, pick levels, and choose Authenticate.

Grok Build: Run grok mcp add --transport http levels https://app.levels.com/mcp, then open Grok Build, run /mcps, select levels, and press i. Sign in to Levels in your browser and choose Allow.

Other apps

Any AI app that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in should work. Point it at https://app.levels.com/mcp and it will find the Levels sign-in on its own.

AI apps update their menus often. If a step doesn't match what you see, look for "Connectors," "Integrations," or "MCP servers" in the app's settings.

What you'll approve

When you connect, Levels shows you which account you're signed in as (with a Not you? link to switch), which app is asking to connect, and what it will be able to do:

  • See your Levels data: profile, glucose, Zones, Logs, check-ins, lab results, health document summaries, program, insights, and coach messages.
  • Add, change, and delete your Logs, check-in answers, and manually entered lab results.

Click Allow to connect. Levels emails you whenever a new app connects to your account.

Things to try

Once you're connected, type these into your AI app (not the Levels app):

  • "How was my week for glucose?"
  • "What caused my spike yesterday afternoon?"
  • "Log lunch at 12:30: chicken Caesar salad and a sparkling water."
  • "I went for a 45-minute run at 6 am."
  • "How has my ApoB changed across my lab visits?"
  • "Do I sleep better on days I exercise?"

Anything you log through your AI assistant shows up in the Levels app like anything else you log.

Privacy and staying in control

  • You approve each app. Nothing connects without your sign-in and your click on Allow.
  • Data you share with an AI app is handled under that app's terms and privacy policy, not Levels'.
  • Never shared: your password, your health document files, and lab report PDFs.
  • If your membership lapses, the connection pauses and resumes automatically once your membership is active again.

To disconnect one app: remove the Levels connector in that app's settings.
To disconnect every app at once: change your Levels password. Do this right away if you get a "connected to your Levels account" email for an app you don't recognize.

Troubleshooting

  • "I connected, but I don't see anything new in the Levels app": That's expected! The connection lives in your AI app. Open Claude, ChatGPT, or Grok and ask a question about your Levels data there.
  • "What's my MCP server?": It's the Levels connection URL: https://app.levels.com/mcp. Paste it into the URL field in your AI app's connector settings.
  • "HTTP ERROR 405" or "This page isn't working": The URL was opened in a browser. Paste it into your AI app's connector settings instead.
  • "This Levels account doesn't have an active membership": Connecting requires an active membership or Coach account.
  • "This connection request has expired": The sign-in took too long. Start again from your AI app.
  • The app asks you to sign in again: The connection ended because your password changed, the app was removed, or it went unused for 30 days. Reconnect from the app.
  • Connected on a second device and the first stopped working: Each app keeps one connection per Levels account. Reconnect on the device you're using.
  • Wrong account connected: On the approval page, click Not you? to switch accounts.
  • A meal was logged with zero macros: Levels couldn't identify the foods. Ask your assistant to fix the meal, or log it again with the totals.
