How to Handle a Biosensor That Falls Off
Follow these steps if your Stelo biosensor falls off before the end of its 15-day lifespan.
Quick steps
- Don’t try to reapply it. Once a biosensor has come off, it cannot be reapplied. The adhesive and sterility are compromised.
- Throw it away. Place the biosensor in your regular household trash.
- Clean your skin. Wash the area with soap and water, then pat dry.
- Check the site. Look for irritation, redness, or leftover adhesive. If needed, remove adhesive with baby oil or adhesive remover wipes.
Request a replacement
You may be eligible for a replacement biosensor if yours fell off early. Follow the steps here: How to Get a Stelo Replacement
Apply your next biosensor
- If your skin is irritated, wait. Apply a new biosensor once the skin looks and feels normal.
- Pick a new spot. Use the other arm if possible, and avoid the previous application site.
Help your next biosensor stay on
- Prep the skin. Use an alcohol wipe and let it dry completely.
- Avoid oils and lotions. Keep the area clean and dry.
- Use extra adhesion if needed. Apply a performance cover right after application.
Why biosensors usually fall off
- Skin was not fully clean and dry during application.
- Lotion, oil, or sweat was present.
- Placement had too much friction (tight sleeves, straps).
- Heat, humidity, heavy sweating, or extended water exposure.
- Accidental snagging when changing clothes.
If biosensors keep falling off
- Contact support for help with placement and application technique.
- Consider a barrier wipe before application (for example, SkinTac).
- Try different medical tape or additional adhesive options.
What happens to your data
- Your data up to that point is saved in the Levels app.
- You’ll see a gap until you apply a new biosensor.
