What to Expect During Sensor Warmup

After applying your Stelo biosensor, it needs a 30-minute warmup period before it can start providing glucose readings. Here's what to expect during this time.

Why warmup is necessary

When you first apply your sensor, a tiny filament is inserted just under your skin. The warmup period allows:

  • The sensor to stabilize in your body
  • Your tissue to settle around the filament
  • The sensor's chemistry to activate and calibrate

This ensures you get accurate readings once the sensor is ready.

What happens during warmup

  • Timeline: Exactly 30 minutes from the moment you apply and activate your sensor
  • What you'll see in the Stelo app: A countdown timer showing how much time remains until your sensor is ready
  • What you won't see: Any glucose readings or data during this period

What you can do during warmup

You don't need to do anything special while your sensor warms up:

  • Go about your normal activities
  • You can shower, exercise, or sleep
  • Keep your phone with Bluetooth enabled nearby (though it doesn't need to be in constant range)
  • The app will notify you when warmup is complete

After warmup completes

Once the 30-minute warmup period ends:

  • You'll receive a notification letting you know your sensor is ready.
  • Readings will begin appearing in your Stelo app and Levels app within a few minutes, as long as you have connected your Stelo account to Levels.
  • Initial accuracy note: Readings during the first 12–48 hours may be less accurate as your body adjusts. This is normal.

If warmup doesn't complete

If your sensor doesn't complete warmup or shows an error:

  • Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone
  • Verify the sensor is still securely attached to your arm
  • Try closing and reopening the Stelo app
